Before 2008, the City of Rhome, Texas had never had a public park. Today, the community has a gathering place—and much more.

THE CITY OF RHOME, TEXAS has increasingly felt the effects of suburban growth from nearby Fort Worth—including increased demands on public services. In particular, residents clamored for a place where neighbors—especially children—could play and enjoy the outdoors.

Civic leaders approached Public Management, Inc. with the community’s wishes. Soon, planning began for the first-ever public park in Rhome, Texas.

Early in the process, Public Management planners and project managers learned that the city owned one acre of undeveloped land in an accessible location close to a residential area. City officials worked with Public Management designers to map out a variety of recreational features and amenities.

Since the project was largely dependent on securing a grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife (TP&W) Small Cities Grant program, the team followed a detailed grading system to ensure a successful application and funding.

The state granted Rhome $50,000 toward the park, and the city matched the grant with another $50,000. Public Management oversaw construction and TP&W compliance on the $100,000 project.

Rhome Family Park features a walking trail with exercise stations, a basketball court, a playground, BBQ grills, picnic tables, benches and a butterfly garden. It’s not only a place for gathering and recreation, but also a source of pride for the entire community.
